18 Years of Nation-Building
To nurture a community of principled young leaders is the core commitment of the Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC).
Now on its 18th year, AYLC 2016 welcomed the latest batch of participants from all over the country, with representatives from the military, police, and the religious. Eighty students attend a four-day leadership summit where they can learn and interact with highly respected leaders from government, civil society, business, and other industries.
This year’s theme is Kabataan: Sabay-Sabay sa Bayan.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Senator Paolo Benigno ‘Bam’ Aquino IV, who himself had qualified for AYLC in 1999.
He encouraged the participants to look at what kind of leadership was needed in the country. “(We need) the empowering leader, someone who can bring out the leader in all of us,” he said. “Someone who can help each Filipino stand on his own feet and not depend on another person all the time, but help us depend on ourselves.”
To aid the participants’ learning and reflection throughout the four days, the participants were divided into workshop groups and outdoor activity groups where they can continue to share their experiences and interact with one another.
The Ayala Young Leaders Congress remains a concrete expression of the Ayala group’s commitment to national development. After seventeen years, it is still the keystone of “Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders”, the youth leadership development program launched in 1998 by the Ayala group of companies as a strategic investment in the youth, and ultimately, in the future of the country.
