Capampangan literature comes alive through collaboration, interpretation

Ayala Foundation’s Filipinas Heritage Library partners with other literary organizations to launch a dynamic approach to teaching local history and literature. Through site visits of literary references enriched by performances of literary excerpts, the Bacolor Literary Tour or Bacolor Literatour, aims to enrich the understanding and appreciation of Capampangan literature and culture.

Bacolor was chosen as a pilot site because  of its deep-seated appreciation of literature and its story of resilience after Pinatubo.

The project also aims to have the literatour can be a model for other LGUs or local businesses interested in arts approach for community development.

A soft launch and pilot test was held last February 22 at the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU), the local partner for the project. Members of DHVTSU’s Theatre Group sang and reenacted some scenes from famous Baculud plays and novels while entertaining the crowd with important tidbits about the town’s history.

Joining FHL and DHVTSU in producing the Bacolor Literary Tour are the Ateneo Institute of Literary Arts and Practices and Ateneo de Manila University Fine Arts Program, National Book Development Board, and High Chair Poetry Group, with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
