How is Ayala Foundation connected to Ayala Corporation?
Ayala Foundation is the socio-cultural development arm of the Ayala group of companies. It is a nonstock, nonprofit organization that serves as Ayala’s main instrument in carrying out its corporate social responsibility programs.
When was Ayala Foundation founded?
Ayala Foundation was originally founded as the Filipinas Foundation in 1961. Col. Joseph McMicking, who was then a managing partner at Ayala, and his wife, Mercedes Zobel, established the foundation to support scientific research and development.
In 1990, FFI was renamed Ayala Foundation, signifying Ayala’s determination to reinvigorate the foundation and make it more responsive to the needs of a changing society through the resources of the entire Ayala group of companies.
What are AFI's advocacies?
Ayala Foundation aims to improve the quality of education and the accessibility of information technology, and strengthen youth development through its varied programs (Center of Excellence in Public School Education, Ayala Young Leaders Congress, Gearing up Internet Literacy and Access for Students, Education and Livelihood Skills Alliance, text2teach, Ayala Intel Computer Clubhouse, and Barangay.Net). AFI also strives to protect the environment (Solid Waste Management), and heighten appreciation for arts and culture (Ayala Museum and Filipinas Heritage Library).
It also has various special projects that include Ayala Foundation USA, which serves as a bridge between Filipino-Americans and Philippine-based nonprofit organizations; the UP Technology Business Incubator; Mindoro Mangyan projects; and the Laguindingan Silk Project.
