Despite the surging unemployment rate and our natural strength as an agricultural country, it is apparent that our economy lacks not capitalization, manpower, nor land and resources but self-reliant and innovative entrepreneurs who will breakthrough and lead in the way we trade our scarce resources.
In response to this very pressing need, the Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI), together with Department of Trade and Industry – National Capital Region (DTI-NCR), through Senator Ramon Magsaysay, Jr.'s Congressional Initiative Allocation (CIA), has initiated the Entrepreneurship Development Program for the Youth, the micro-businesses, and those belonging in the small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
This is to enhance entrepreneurial skills and knowledge of the youth and develop strategic thinking amongst young entrepreneurs in the National Capital Region with the end-in-view of assisting the development of small and medium-scale enterprises. The program hopes to promote self-employment, agriculture and rural enterprises by providing financial support, technical know-how, and mentoring to young entrepreneurs specifically in the agri-business sector. It is to encourage the young entrepreneurs to utilize Filipino-made raw materials including agricultural products.
Thus, DTI, AFI, and the office of Senator Magsaysay has collaborated and pooled its resources to provide an avenue for the most creative, innovative, feasible and profitable agri-business enterprises in the NCR through the DTI – Ayala – Magsaysay Business Plan Competition 2007.
The competition targets Young Entrepreneurs, Student Entrepreneurs, and currently existing SME entrepreneurs to capitalize on the youth's energy and drive to create, lead and innovate. Through the competition, the organizers hopes to nurture the business and entrepreneurial instincts of the youth especially in the agri-business sector, which is one of our natural strengths as having been a very promising agricultural economies in the past.
