AFI, barangay Ususan launch recyclables recovery program

9/8/2008 | Ayala Foundation

Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI) and the barangay council of Ususan, Taguig, launched in June a recyclables recovery program entitled "Go Green, Ususan: Eco Defenders to the Rescue."

Headed by chairman Sonny Marcelino and councilor Marvin Hernandez, "Go Green, Ususan" is a barangay-wide recyclables recovery contest that aims to recycle as much as 25 percent of the barangay's solid waste that is normally brought to landfills. The students are asked to bring recyclable materials to their respective schools. The school that accumulates the biggest volume of recyclable materials will win a cash prize of P60,000 from AFI.

The Sustainable Energy Development Program (SEDP) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Solid Waste Management Office and School Board of the City of Taguig support the program.

For over a year, AFI and Ayala Land Inc. have been assisting barangay Ususan in their solid-waste-management programs.
