September 30, 2005 was a great Friday for the Ayala Intel Computer Clubhouse in General Trias, Cavite, which celebrated two successes for its members under two programs initiated by Intel Technologies Philippines.
The first success came in the form of a big check--literally--that Intel awarded the Clubhouse and some participating schools under the Intel Volunteer Grant Matching Program (VMGP).
The grant matching program awards $50.00 to the school or project for every 20 volunteer hours Intel employees logged in. The Clubhouse garnered a total of 1180 volunteer hours equivalent to P162,250.00, making it one of the top ten awardees of the Intel VMGP. Clubhouse Coordinator Jofel Josef of Ayala Foundation and Asst. Clubhouse Coordinator Joman Toledo of the Municipal Government of Gen. Trias accepted the check on behalf of the members. The grant will be used to fund Clubhouse members' activities.
The Clubhouse staff has always made it a point to implement innovative strategies to attract more volunteers for the Clubhouse. For them, the Intel VGMP award is a bonus which will help the Clubhouse achieve the greater goal of instilling volunteering practices not only within Intel, but with other companies and within the community as well.
Trias Clubhouse Coordinator Jofel Josef remarked, "This award has certainly inspired us to come up with more innovative and creative ways for Intel employees/people to volunteer. The manpower is already there and willing, and it's a matter of creating avenues for them to volunteer. But more than the monetary reward, it's good to see that a company like Intel is pushing volunteerism Gen. Trias, Cavite. I strongly believe that all companies should rethink and realign their community programs today, especially with the growing need for corporate social responsibility."
The second success was the much awaited launch of the "Intel K2: Kabalikat sa Kaligtasan" audio visual presentation (AVP) created and produced by the Clubhouse members, staff, and volunteers.
Intel K2: Kabalikat sa Kaligtasan is a school safety program initiated by Intel for the Clubhouse and all public schools in Gen. Trias. Before the launch, Intel Community Relations -- Public Affairs asked the Clubhouse to come up with a jingle and a music video for the program. Aware of the talents of its members and the capabilities of the Computer Clubhouse, the Clubhouse readily accepted the task. The end products: an original jingle done by members Ajiver Asahan and Jonathan Presa, and a very impressive music video done through collaborative efforts among the members, mentors and staff.
A short power outage may have dampened the mood of the crowd a little, but when the power came back on, the spirits of Clubhouse members were very high as they performed the song live while the music video was being shown in the background.
School officials, students, Intel employees and the local government attended the event. It was evident that the talents of the Ayala-Intel Computer Clubhouse members did not fail to amaze the crowd.
