50 public school children spend a day at the Ayala Museum
5/20/2010 | Ayala Foundation
On May 6, 50 children from the Pitogo Elementary School, a public school located in Barangay Pitogo, Makati City, were given a rare summer experience at the Ayala Museum. They were the first batch of the students to participate in Ayala Museum's A Day at the Museum, a campaign to bring 1,000 public schoolchildren to the museum this summer, free of charge.
The children toured the Philippine Dioramas, a historical collection that chronicles the rich tapestry of Philippine history; the one-of-a-kind boat gallery showcasing miniatures of the different watercrafts that plied the Philippine seas; selected artworks of Filipino masters such as Juan Luna, Fernando Zobel and Fernando Amorsolo; the famous Crossroads of Civilization featuring a priceless collection of gold objects from pre-Spanish times; and clothing and potteries dating back hundreds of years.
To complement and further enhance their visit, the kids also engaged in enjoyable hands-on art activities, and were toured around the Greenbelt Park and Ayala Triangle Garden where artworks by renowned architect Lor Calma and our very own national artist Arturo Luz, are on display. The kids were also treated to storytelling, lunch, and snacks during their visit, and given goodie bags containing materials for art to bring home.
You can help more public school kids experience A Day at the Museum.
The Ayala Foundation is raising P500,000 from April to May 2010, to bring 1,000 kids to the Ayala Museum this summer. To date, the foundation has raised about P125,000 which is enough to cover 250 kids or five batches of 50 kids each. We are still raising P375,000 more to the remaining target of 750 public school children.
So please join us in this campaign. A gift of either $10 (for US based donors) or P500 (for Philippine based donors), will cover transportation costs, meals, art workshop (plus materials) and a goodie bag for one child. Details of your contribution can be emailed to resourcedev@ayalafoundation.org so we can update you on how the fundraiser is moving forward. This will also help us ensure that you get your official receipt for the donation you will make.
Help us give an underprivileged child A Day at the Museum so together we can develop their cultural awareness and pride in being a Filipino, and provide them with a source of inspiration for many years to come!
