William Quiviger, Mozilla's Global Community Manager and Marketing Team member based in Paris talked about MOZILLA, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote openness, innovation and opportunity on the web. Mozilla represents a global community of people who sincerely believe in the power of technology to enrich people's lives. William expounded on Mozilla's mission in an Open Web and its dedication to keeping it free, open and accessible to all by creating great software, like the FIREFOX browser, and building movements, like DRUMBEAT that give people tools to take control of their lives on line. Although building a better Internet is an ambitious goal, Mozilla believes that it is possible when people who share their passion get involved. Anyone who cares about the web can help make it even better.
The common thread that runs throughout Mozilla is its belief that, as the most significant social and technological development of our time, the Internet is a public resource that must remain open and accessible to all. With this in mind, Mozilla efforts are ultimately driven by its mission of encouraging choice, innovation and opportunity online. Mozilla uses a highly transparent, extremely collaborative process that brings together thousands of dedicated volunteers around the world with a small staff of employees to coordinate the creation of products like the Firefox web browser with the end view of focusing a single goal: making the Internet better for everyone.
William also shared the Mozilla Reps Program codenamed ReMo designed to provide a framework and tools to empower volunteer Mozillians to become official Mozilla representatives/contributors in their country or region. ReMo's key objective is to create a community-driven global network of official representatives whose responsibilites are to: serve as the eyes, ears and voice of Mozilla in their country or region and be a key point person for teams across all areas of the Mozilla project; promote Mozilla project and its mission; build on existing community-building efforts and programs; inform and update the Mozilla community about local news and activities and inspire, recruit and mentor new contributors. There were 5 among the participants to the K+T forum who are already certified Mozilla representatives.
Mr. Quiviger ended his presentation by informing the participants that the worldwide goal of the Mozilla ReMo program in 2011 is to recruit 500 Mozilla Representatives who in turn must recruit a total of 5,000 new Mozilla contributors by year-end 2011.
In the open-forum that followed the presentation, the participants inquired on updates from Mozilla internet and web browsing programs and also on what possible opportunities/support that Mozilla may offer to its representatives/contributors? Mr. Quiviger apprised them of Mozilla's continuing training program for web developers and designers which is handled by the Mozilla Technical Group. In addition, he invited everyone to attend the 1st Asian Summit for Mozilla Representatives which will be held in Kuala Lumpur in November 2011. This will provide opportunity for all Asian Mozilla representatives to get together and update one another on the latest developments affecting the internet technology.
