Support a Mindanaoan Young Leader Project (SMYLe)!

6/21/2010 | Ayala Foundation

The Youth Civic Engagement Program (YCEP) of the Education and Livelihood Skills Alliance is a development program developed by Ayala Foundation for community youth leaders in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and other conflict areas. This development program gathers 50 community-recognized youth leaders from North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi.

YCEP provides the youth wide opportunities by allowing them to take an active role in community building. Chosen youth leaders undergo a series of capacity-building activities, enabling them to be effective leaders of their own communities. The series of activities come in this sequence: leadership camp; community scanning; project management training; and project implementation. Prior to project implementation, all crafted project proposals undergo a screening process, choosing 10 best proposals to be given small grants.

With the hope of enabling more Mindanaoan youth leaders to do their own community projects come Support A Mindanaoan Young Leader 2 (SMYLe2). This campaign aims to raise Php 100,000 to fund 10 additional youth-led projects that could bring a notch of progress to their communities. Each project will be given Php 10,000 grant, enabling the youth proponents to move towards a positive cause.

Projects eligible to receieve funding are those that focus on education and academic enhancement; provision of materials and equipment; feeding programs; renovatio, repairs, and minor construction; training and seminars for parents or Parents, Teachers, and Community Associations; and other fund raising events or fund-generating activities.

The program provides several ways to donate. An individual may donate 1,000 pesos and then make a call for support support from his or her circle of friends. A circle of ten donors will be able to support a project of their choice. Your group of friends may choose any of the projects listed.
