Typhoon relief campaign 2009: Lending a hand to Filipinos in need

6/25/2010 | Ayala Foundation

In 2009, two typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng visited the country and caught many people unprepared. Creeks, rivers and lakes overflowed due to the great volume of rainwater dumped by Ondoy. This caused rivers to swell and overflow thus flooding 90% of the National Capital Region, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Laguna. In Benguet, 132 were killed due to landslides brought about by Typhoon Pepeng. Indeed, these paint a dire picture of Filipino families who were left cold, hungry, homeless, and worst, bereft of loved ones. But in the midst of these calamities, heroes were born and the spirit of bayanihan was rekindled, as we joined forces with victims and good Samaritans to help the communities during and after these life-changing events.

Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI) and Ayala Foundation USA joined hands with more than 27 organizations and countless individuals here and abroad to raise Php 16,025,536 in a matter of two months. We became witnesses of the generosity and selflessness of our fellowmen from packing rice and canned goods, distributing relief packages, conducting rescue operations and medical missions, and providing emotional support to the affected communities by just being there with them.

We thank you for donating to our typhoon relief campaign in 2009. We hope that you will continue to support us as we find ways to respond to the challenge of climate change.
