Short film by CENTEX alumni screens at international film fests

A short film produced by four alumni of the Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education (CENTEX) Manila is now making rounds in international film festivals.

Mikoy, a short film conceptualized, developed, and produced by CENTEX Manila alumni Timothy Mendoza, Lowell Mongcal, Nichole Camille Castillo, and Jomelle Tandura, has been invited to participate in the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival in May 2014. The LA Asian Pacific Film Festival features nearly 150 films and video productions by Asian Pacific American and Asian international artists, in addition to panels, workshops and artist/audience dialogues.

In 2013, the CENTEX alumni joined a month-long summer workshop on filmmaking and shadow play production at the CASA San Miguel in Zambales. Mikoy was the group’s output for filmmaking workshop. The group was mentored by CASA San Miguel resident artist Ruelo Lozendo.

In 2013, Mikoy was also screened at the Auburn International Film Festival (Australia), the 20th Filipino American Cine Festival (United States), and the Cinepambata Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize.

Mikoy is about a lonesome boy who strives hard to save his ailing friend. When he fails to do so, he is forced to accept that parting ways could sometimes work for the better.
